Author's Note: Why do I keep typing this?  It's been almost 10 years since the show's been on air, if Ryan Murphy isn't coming to kick my ass by now, I think it's a safe bet he's not showing up to sue me anytime soon.  ;)  This is part of my drabble request fest.  For hypno_ninja.

Summary: If you can't get what you want, you take what you can get.


"Sam," Brooke exhaled, pulling away slightly.  Sam held her in place, not wanting to let go.  Not again.  "We have to stop.  He'll be home any minute now."

"I don’t care," Sam growled against Brooke's neck, resting the palms of her hands on the wall behind Brooke.  "I don't care, Brooke.  I don't want to leave."

"Sam, you have to," Brooke sighed heavily.  "He can't find out.  He can never find out.  You agreed-"

"-I know what I agreed to," Sam replied, throwing her hands in the air and stepping back.  "I'm leaving."

"You'll call me?" Brooke asked quietly.

"Sure."

"This isn't going to get any easier, is it?" Sam asked suddenly.

"No," Brooke simply put sadly.

"You can just leave-"

"-You know the answer to that statement already, Sam," Brooke admonished, shaking her head while reaching for her purse and heading to the door.  "I'll call you.  Soon.  I promise."

"I know," Sam shrugged, watching as Brooke exited her apartment.  Sam mentally berated herself for saying it again.  She was going to lose Brooke to him again, and if this was all she could have, it'd be too much for her to lose at this stage of the game.

"I can't do this anymore," Sam said one day.

"Okay," Brooke replied, knowing the day would come.

Brooke wishes she could do it.  She wished she was strong enough to leave him, but she can't be with her either.  So, she settled for so long with what they had, it wasn't enough for Sam.  Now, because of her, it was most likely over for good.  But that's what happens when you let high school love affairs dictate the will of the heart.  The sad thing, Brooke often thought, is that Harrison never really knew what he was a part of
