Janet's eyes snapped open and she broke the kiss, gently pushing Sam away. "Whoaaa, hold up there."

"What?"

Janet sat up, holding together the front of her blouse. Sam sat up as well, brushing the brunette hair that was falling over her friend's face. "Sorry, Janet. I thought we were on the same page."

"We were," Janet nodded, turning to face Sam. "We are. It's just, uh... what you said."

Sam frowned. "What'd I say?"

Janet swallowed. "You know..."

Sam thought, then smiled. "Oh. You mean about marrying you?"

Janet's eyes widened slightly. "Yeah. That."

"What's so wrong with that?"

"Gee, want the list alphabetically or..."

Sam scooted forward and wrapped an arm around Janet's waist, pulling the smaller woman to her. "Janet, sweetheart, I'm not going to take it back." She kissed the other woman's cheek, then whispered, "I love you. I *want* to marry you."

"I now pronounce you wife and wife, like that?"

Sam rolled her eyes and nibbled on Janet's earlobe.

"It's not legal." Sam's hand wandered and Janet yelped. "And *that* should also be illegal." She closed her eyes and rolled her head, allowing Sam more access to her throat.

"Let me get this straight," Sam said, parting the folds of Janet's blouse. "I love you. You love me. We're a happ--"

"I'll kick you out of this house if you say one more word," Janet threatened, her breast fully cupped in the blonde's hand.

"Agreed," Sam chuckled. "We're in love with each other. Right?"

"Mmm, no doubt about it," Janet confirmed.

Sam slipped Janet's blouse off and went to work on her bra. "Cassandra loves both of us, considers the two of us her parents. But it's illegal for me to want to marry you."

Janet pulled Sam's head forward and kissed her. "It's not illegal to want it," she said softly. "It's just illegal to *do* it."

Sam touched her forehead to Janet's. "I'm going to need you to explain that one to me. Just because there's not two inches of meat between my legs I can't marry you."

"Two inches?" Janet said. "Oh, poor sweety..."

Sam chuckled and brushed Janet's mussed hair. "I want you, Janet. By my side, in my life, today and tomorrow and April 30, 2032. I want people to see the ring on our hands and know I belong to you and you belong to me. Don't you want that?"

"Yes," Janet chuckled, holding Sam's hand. "I do. But there's also that pesky military thing to deal with."

Sam leaned forward, hugging Janet and resting her chin on the brunette's shoulder. "I shouldn't have brought it up," she said, her voice soft and pained.

"I'm glad you did," Janet whispered, stroking her friend's hair. "I'm glad I know you feel this strongly for me... as strongly as I feel for you. Come here." Sam straightened and kissed the corners of the brunette's mouth. Janet stroked her friend's tears away with the pad of her thumb and quieted asked, "Do you, Samantha, take me, Janet?"

"Yes, Janet. Do you take me?"

Janet nodded, eyes brimming with fresh tears.

Sam hugged the other woman and said, "That's it? You... don't need something *more*?"

"It's enough for right now." She tightened her embrace and lightly kissed Sam behind her ear. "Will you make love to me?"

Sam grinned and said, "I will. Tonight, tomorrow and April 30, 2032."
