It took her a few minutes to realise where she was. She was in the apartment she shared with her friend Beth. Her roommate stood in the doorway watching her playing with herself as she’d slept. A groggy Shelley looked up, removing her hand from between her legs.

“Shit Shelley, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.”

“It’s okay.”

The redhead pulled herself up, adjusting her cream satin robe. Beth sat on the edge of the bed next to her, smiling.

“You had that dream again didn’t you?” she asked.

“Yes. I can’t stop thinking about her.”

The brunette next to her smiled.

“But it’s not like you haven’t slept with anybody since.”

“I know.” Shelley said. “Maybe it’s just her?”

Beth’s head turned to look at her friend and smiled warmly at her. Her hand rested on Shelley’s knee, moving up her thigh. The robe opened slightly and her eyes traveled down her body, resting on breasts as they peeked out. Beth moved closer to her, sure at any moment that Shelley was going to stop her. Instead of kissing her, Beth began to suckle on the redhead’s neck.

“Saaaaam.” Shelley growled softly.

But Beth still wasn’t put off.

“I can be her Shelley. I’m here when you need me.”

The redhead smiled, taking Beth's tongue into her mouth. Shelley fell back on her bed, keeping eye contact with the brunette. Beth stood at the edge of the bed, taking off her own robe. It slid off her body and onto the floor next to her feet. Shelley bit her lip at the sight in front of her. Beth looked after herself, taking regular exercise and going to the gym when she could. And it certainly paid off. Her body was toned, her flat stomach was a thing of beauty. Shelley’s eyes lowered to her shaven pussy. Beth moved closer, kneeling on the bed and covered Shelley’s body with her own. A deeper kiss followed. But a lack of oxygen brought them back to reality. The redhead’s eyes fluttered trying to get rid of the image in her mind. Shelley pushed her away, adjusting her robe again and stood up.

“I’m sorry Beth. I can’t do this. You’re an incredible woman but….”

Beth looked up at her, lying on her back.

“But I’m not Captain Carter am I?”

“I’m sorry but your not.”

Breakfast was filled with an uncomfortable silence. Beth had gotten dressed pretty quickly and they were now sitting in silence. Shelley looked up from time to time, making eye contact. She wanted to say sorry for turning her down. It wasn’t that she wasn’t tempted. Beth was beautiful. Long brown hair, gorgeous deep brown eyes and a body like a goddess. But to Shelley, she wasn’t Sam. Something happened to her during her visit that she just couldn’t forget. The sex had been hot and exciting. The next day they’d spent together, making love again, talking and holding each other. But Sam left early that evening and she was gone. Sam said that she’d call but she hadn’t. That had been two months ago and Shelley had done her best to get on with her life and had two sexual relationships since then, both with guys from the academy. One of which had been a blind date set up by her brother. He was nice just not her type. She wanted Sam.!  Wanted to feel her lips, her body next to her. She wanted to taste her, run her tongue through the soft blonde curls. She tasted incredible, sweet with a salty after-taste. Now Shelley knew she was addicted. There was a need deep inside her, a need to feel close to someone again. Now it was clear to her. She was in love, with a woman.

The ride to the academy was long and in silence yet again. Only a few cadets lived away from the academy, including Shelley. It was mainly because of her brother. She and Beth had gotten on really well and it seemed the obvious choice that they’d share. Now what had happened between them was having a strange affect on their relationship.

Shelley dropped her keys on the kitchen counter.

“Beth are you…?”

Before she could answer, Beth stood behind her.

“You’re back late?” she said.

“Yeah I had a few things to do before I came home.”

The brunette moved into the kitchen, reaching up to get a glass from the shelf above the sink.

“I thought you were avoiding me!”

“Why would I do that? I was really flattered. You’re a beautiful woman Beth, really beautiful.”

Beth turned to face Shelley, placing the glass back into the sink. Shelley looked deep into Beth’s eyes, deep and inviting. Her arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her close. Lips sought out each other. Beth pinned Shelley to the kitchen cupboard behind her and began to kneel in front of her. Shelley looked down at her not attempting to fight her off. Beth’s hands reached around her waist and began unzipping her skirt. It fell to her feet and the brunette kicked it away.

“Beth, you don’t have to do this.”

“I’m not gonna stop unless you tell me Shell.”

Shelley gasped as she felt Beth’s tongue licking the outer lace of her panties. Beth stood up, grabbing hold of Shelley’s hand.

“We’ll be more comfortable in my room,” she said.

Shelley followed behind her, her arms draped around her waist. Beth closed the door behind her and led her towards the bed.

One Month Later

Beth and Shelley had become more than just roommates. There was no way they were in love with each other. It was sex, plain and simple.  Although they enjoyed themselves immensely they still saw other people. Beth had a boyfriend and Shelley was still in lust with Captain Carter. Despite not having seen her for three months, the memory was firmly placed in her mind. Beth understood. To her, her sexual encounters with her redheaded roommate were to keep her in touch with her body, and boy, was Beth in touch with Shelley’s body. One night Beth’s boyfriend nearly caught them. Both had been aroused by the thought. But a three-some wasn’t on the cards, especially not for Shelley.

Shelley left Beth and Josh to it and they were at it like rabbits as usual. It wasn’t that Shelley felt left out, it just made her realise what she was missing. When she felt like this, there was only one place she could go, the bar in which Sam had first made her move.

Her head looked around the bar, seeing the usual familiar faces. This had become her usual haunt in recent weeks. Hoping to see that familiar face in the crowd again. But she hadn’t seen her and hadn’t even had a phone call from her. Which depressed her a little. After the incredible night and afternoon they had spent together Shelley thought they had something special going on. Her body had never felt so alive, so in sync with another person before. Sam had brought her to the brink of passion and sexual pleasure on so many occasions that Shelley had lost count. Shelley shook her head as she tried to forget for a while.

“Can I have the usual Terri, please?”

Terri moved up from the other end of the bar towards her young friend. For the last few months, both had gotten to know each other pretty well and Terri knew when there was something wrong.

“Still no word?” Terri asked.

The redhead shook her head slowly.

“There’s absolutely nothing I can do about it.”

“Have you tried calling her?”

Shelley glared at her.

“Oh yeah and say what. Why haven’t you called? Don’t I mean anything to do? How would that make me sound? Like some spoilt kid who can’t get what she wants?"

Terri smiled at her, placing Shelley’s drink down on the bar.

“No of course not. Someone who’s hurting, someone who knows what she wants.”

Her head turned, looking around the bar. It was the usual crowd with the usual scenes playing out in front of her.

“Yeah and I’m not going to find her here.”

“Then what are you going to do?” Terri asked.

“I’ve absolutely no idea.” Shelley said with laughter in her voice.

Terri placed a supportive hand on hers, almost crushing it. Her eyes looked up at her, lips smiling. Body language, especially body language between herself and another woman had never been Shelley's strong point but she was certain Terri's was coming on to her. This had been happening to her a lot recently. Was she giving off some kind of 'I’m available' vibe? Well, being in a gay bar certainly told them something about her.

"Terri..."

Terri shot her head back quickly already predicting Shelley's answer. She picked up Shelley's hand and kissed her palm.

"I just hope she's worth the wait hun."

"You've seen her, you tell me if she isn't worth it?"

Terri smiled at her.

"I think you maybe right babe. Definitely worth it."

Shelley picked up her drink and took a sip and licked her lips slowly.

"I think I’m gonna go home. Enjoy my thoughts."

The bartender smiled back at her, giving her a knowing nod.

"Enjoy yourself babe."

Shelley drank the last remaining gulp of alcohol and slammed the glass back down on the bar.

"I intend to."

***********************

Shelley had been getting ready for most of the evening. The biggest event in the academy year. In fact the only event that let them all let their hair down and tonight was no exception. It was the night of the big get-together. Beth was going with Josh and Shelley's escort for the evening was coming in from out of town especially for the evening.

Shelley stood in front of her full-length mirror, adjusting her dress. It was the brightest red she'd ever seen, long, down to just above her ankles. The dress matched her high heels. Beth's head rested on her shoulder.

"You look incredible," she said.

Her hands trailed up and down Shelley's sides, managing to pull up the dress to her waist.

"Maybe later." Shelley said.

"I'll hold you to that."

"You'd better."

Beth released the dress, smoothing it down. She nibbled on Shelley's ear, knowing where she liked to be teased. The increases of breathe made Beth more aroused.

"I can't wait to get you out of that dress and in my bed."

The redhead turned quickly in Beth's arms, meeting with her full red lips. Shelley felt Beth's fingers in her hair, pressing her head deeply against her lips. They broke, panting, aroused as the front door bell rang.

"I'll go," Beth said. "You carry on making yourself look gorgeous."

The brunette stood by the door and turned to look back at her roommate. Shelley smiled at her warmly, still deeply aroused by that passion-filled kiss. She turned back towards the mirror and touched-up her lipstick. She heard the door open, then close a few feet away. There were several voices all talking to each other. But she turned her attention back to her reflection in the mirror. As she blinked for a few seconds, she noticed another person standing behind her. Not Beth or even Josh but her date for the evening. She spun quickly around, falling into his arms with a laugh.

"Hello to you too, little sis."

Jack O'Neill pulled his sister to arms length taking a long look at her.

"God Shelley. When did you turn into such a beautiful woman?"

"Jack," Shelley said, embarrassed.

He looked at her more closely.

"I'm serious Shell. I bet you can have any pick of the guys eh?"

An embarrassed Jack tugged at her hands, pulling her over towards the bed. They sat side-by-side, brother and sister.

"So, who is he?" He asked.

"Who's who?"

"The one who's occupied so much of your time that you've hardly called. Sara and Charlie can't wait to see you again."

Green eyes stared up at him with a hidden hurt in them that he wasn't supposed to see.

"So, who is he?" Jack asked again.

Shelley stood pacing the room. So it had come to this. After 8 years of avoiding this conversation, it was about to happen.

"Jack," she whispered. "You know when I was a 13 and you caught me with your copy of Playboy."

"Yeah. You said that you must have picked it up by mistake. Which was kinda funny cause I kept them under my bed."

The redhead laughed nervously looking down at her brother.

"You know how those stupid profiles go. Hi my names Shelley, born in Minnesota. I have one brother. My hobbies are long walks through the park in the rain. Candlelight suppers and picking up women in bars."

The colonel looked up at her, nodding his head and gave her a strange smile.

"Well, at least you finally told me. I thought I was gonna have to drag it out of ya when you were in the rest home."

"You knew?" Shelley asked.

"That you were gay, not until a moment ago. Although I had my suspicions. I mean you've been out with guys right?"

He stood, trying to stop her from wearing a hole in the carpet. Shelley stopped in her tracks and stood face to face with her brother.

"I have. It's not that I don't like guys I do. I guess I get the best of both worlds. I thought I would end up with a guy until I met her..."

"I see. Is she at the academy?"

Shelley shook her head.

"Not recently no."

"She's an officer." Jack said, somewhat startled and surprised by his little sister.

Her embarrassed face returned again.

“Yeah. I’d seen her around the academy then one night we happened to be in the same club.”

“A gay bar?” Jack asked.

Shelley nodded.

“I’m sure you can guess what happened. But that was three months ago and I haven’t heard from her since.”

“I’m sorry Shell.”

The redhead turned, looking at herself again the mirror, seeing her brother standing behind her.

“I guess it just wasn’t meant to be,” she said, with deep regret in her voice.

Jack hugged her gently from behind. He raised his head to look at her through the mirror.

“Come on Shell, we’d better go.”

She turned back, forcing a smile on her face.

“Okay. I guess I can force myself to have a good time.”

“Hey, when I’m around you won’t need to force yourself to have fun.”

Her forcible smile disappeared making way for a true smile.

“That’s better. Now lets go. I wanna dance with all those eligible female officers.” Jack said.

The colonel moved ahead of his sister but turned back on hearing her next comment.

“Hey, get in line bro. Jack, we’re okay aren’t we? I know it’s not the kind of news you were expecting to hear tonight.”

He moved towards her, taking her hand.

“You’re my sister Shelley, I love you. You could be an alien with grey skin and big round black eyes and it wouldn’t matter to me.”

Shelley smiled and moved past him towards the door.

“Yeah, right Jack, little grey aliens.”

***********************

Jack sat looking around the hall, watching as nearly every male cadet in the room asked Shelley to dance. He smiled, seeing that she was enjoying herself. They danced around the floor, Shelley laughing and giggling. This had been the first time Jack had seen her happy in a long time. In fact, it was the first time he had seen her in several months. They’d spoken on the phone. He’d heard the sadness in her voice. That’s why he’d offered to take her to this dance, to see what was making her so miserable. Now he knew. She’d met someone and it had ended badly. Then Shelley had told him that she bi-sexual. It hadn’t come as a complete shock. At least now he knew where all his Playboys had gone. Everything was falling into place. When Shelley was a kid she'd play with Barbie and Cindy and they always seemed to end up sharing the same bed. Throwing Ken and Paul out in the cold. Jack used to feel sorry for them and would put them back, only to find them thrown out again the next day.

Jack began to laugh as the memory raced through his mind. He stood, moving towards the bar, being nudged out of the way by a tall blonde woman. His eyes looked up her and down. For once all he could think was 'I wonder if Shelley would like her?’ Anyway she walked away, moving forwards towards a group of cadets.

"Wow," he muttered under his breath.

The woman in question was just under 6ft with legs that went all the way up to the right places. He saw her head darting around the room as though she was looking for someone. Jack's attention wandered back towards his sister who had left her dancing partner and was moving towards him, in search of a drink.

"God I need this," she said, gulping down the 'non alcoholic' drink.

"You’re keeping quite busy out there."

She nodded, feeling the sweat dripping down her back.

"Yeah. I might not stay for too much longer, I’m tired. And surrounded by all these people is not where I want to be right now."

"Why?"

"I just need time to think. Try and get my life back to some kind of normality. I can't go on hoping that thing's are gonna change. That she's gonna mysteriously walk back into my life."

Shelley whispered the last sentence under her breath, hoping no one would hear her. Her head looked up, seeing Jack handing her his glass of scotch.

"Here, I think you deserve this. You're one incredible woman Shelley O'Neill."

The grin on her face grew as he leaned over kissing her cheek.

"Well I have my brother to thank for that."

A pair of eyes glared at them from across the room as Jack enveloped his sister in a tight hug. She threw back another glass of gin and turned to find the first available man she could find. Shelley's eyes moved around the room, just feeling slightly embarrassed by being hugged to death by her brother. Her eyes stopped as she found her, standing in a corner on the opposite of the room. A curious smile appeared on her face. She couldn’t believe that she was there. In the one place that she thought she’d never see her again. Shelley was made to turn away as she felt Jack’s hand on her shoulder.

“Here.”  He said, placing another glass in her hand.

“Thanks.”

She smiled nervously, placing the glass back down on the table next to her. Her whole body turned back to where Sam had been standing. But she was gone.

“Damn it,” she shouted.

Shelley looked up seeing Beth moving towards her.

“Did you see her Shelley?”

The redhead nodded furiously.

“Where did she go?”

“I don’t know, I didn’t see her leave.” Beth said.

Jack was a little more than confused.

“Who? Who are you talking about?”

“The woman I was talking about.”

He nodded slowly, realising who she meant.

“Ahh I see, the mystery blonde.” He whispered under his breath.

There was a look of panic on her face. What if she’d seen her with Jack and got the wrong impression.

“I have to go find her.” Shelley said.

“Are you sure that’s a good idea? Maybe you should leave it for a while.”

Shelley shook her head.

“No. What if she leaves and I never see her again. I have to find her Beth, I have too.”

Shelley turned quickly, running out of the main hall. Her eyes scowered the surrounding area.

"SAM." Shelley shouted.

The blonde turned. Stopping short as she made her way down the steps towards the main exit.

"Where are you going?" Shelley asked.

"Anywhere. After what I’ve just seen I..."

Shelley ran after her, nearly tripping over her dress in the process.

"Wait please. I can't believe you're here. I thought I’d never see you again."

"Looks like you didn't waste much time."

"That was nothing, he was...."

"I don't want to hear it. Just go back."

The redhead shook her head.

"No, No. You don't understand."

"And I don't want to. I know enough. I saw you. I bet he's not the first is he?"

"Well what do you expect? You never called me. You made me crazy; you made me question who I was and you left me. Ever since then, you're all I’ve thought about. Shelley pleaded.

Shelley reached out her hand, trying to hold Sam's. The blonde pulled away.

"I'm sorry."

"Sam please. You can't tell me that what happened between us, didn't mean anything to you?"

Sam turned, with clear tears in her eyes.

"It didn't," she whispered.

"I don't believe you." Shelley said shaking her head.

Tears fell from her eyes.

"It's true."

"NO." Shelley said.

"I'm sorry Shelley.

Sam ran down the steps and out into the main courtyard of the academy. Shelley cursed herself for not telling Sam whom the man was that she had been talking to. She spun around feeling a hand on her shoulder.

“Shelley.”

Beth stood behind her, smiling.

“She doesn’t deserve you.”

“Don’t Beth. Just leave it.”

************************

Beth had called Shelley on her way to her boyfriend’s apartment to check if she was okay and that she wouldn’t be home and was going to give her some space.

Shelley had been lounging around her apartment in her pj’s for the last two hours. She’d tried to sleep. But all she saw when she closed her eyes was Sam running away and it drove her crazy. Ever since that night they’d spent together, Shelley knew that Sam was whom she wanted. Now it seemed that she didn’t feel the same way.

The redhead lay on the couch, watching her third romantic movie and on her second box of tissues. She wiped her eyes as the door bell rang.

She opened it slowly. Sam Carter stood in the door way, still wearing the same dress she was wearing earlier.

"Sam. What are you doing here."

The blonde didn't respond and instead pushed Shelley into the apartment.

"What are you doing?"

"Shut up, don't say anything."

Sam's hand fell to her side, grabbing hold of Shelley's.

"Where's the bedroom?" She asked.

Shelley pointed into the direction of her bedroom and promptly followed behind her lover.

"What does this mean?"

The blonde turned mid-stride and smiled.

"It means that I’m gonna make you scream Shelley. That I’m gonna make your body feel like it's never felt before. It means, that you're mine and you always will be."

"Oh okay."

They moved a few more steps before Sam turned again.

"Oh, and I think I love you."

Shelley smiled and followed behind her the rest of the way. Still slightly unsure about what would happen tomorrow. Would she wake up and find her still lying there besides her? Or would she be gone from her bed again? The truth was, she didn't really know. But something told her from the look in her eyes that this relationship or whatever it was was going to last.
